New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday 2012

The 2012 New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday runs from Friday, August 3 until midnight on Sunday, August 5. It’s just in time for back-to-school savings: the following items are exempt from New Mexico gross receipts tax during the tax holiday:

  • Clothing or shoes costing less than $100 per unit/per pair
  • School supplies under $30 per unit
  • Desktop, laptop, or notebook computers, including tablets, priced less than $1,000
  • Other computer hardware priced under $500 (such as a printer, mouse, keyboard, monitor, microphone, speakers, ink cartridges etc.)
  • Handheld calculators under $200 per unit
  • Bookbags and school backpacks under $100 per unit

Exclusions include phones, cameras, PDAs, all MP3 players and iPods, games and computer games, and musical instruments. Those items are still taxable during the weekend.

The amount you save varies according to the gross receipts tax rate in your specific New Mexico location, but tax-free shopping is always good in my opinion! So if you have any qualifying items on your to-buy list, get out and shop this weekend, August 3 – 5, 2012.

See details on what you can buy tax-free and what you still have to pay tax on during the New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday at the link, where the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department has PDF files listing the various tax-free shopping items.

Ruidoso Discount Coupons

If you’re visiting Ruidoso, check out these Ruidoso coupons for discounts on lodgings, attractions, dining and shopping. The coupons may vary over time, but right now I’m seeing:

  • $1 discount on Hubbard Museum of the American West adult admission
  • The Village Buttery free tea or cookie when you buy a meal
  • Blue Gem 20% discount on shopping
  • Cozy Cabins stay two nights and get the third night free
  • West Winds Lodge stay three nights and get the fourth night free in condos or cabin rooms

The Inn of the Mountain Gods coupon for a free appetizer or dessert when you buy two entrees at Smokey B’s looks great until you see the VERY tiny type: You must be a member of the Apache Spirit Club to use it. So don’t waste time printing that coupon out unless you are!

Find the current Ruidoso coupons – the expiry dates vary, but many are valid through 2012.

Aeropostale Teens for Jeans: 25% off Jeans with Old Jeans Donation

Aéropostale’s Teens for Jeans campaign through February 12 gives customers 25% off new jeans, when you donate an old pair of jeans at an Aéropostale store. The jeans you donate don’t have to be from Aéropostale – they can be any brand and any size, but they should be in good condition.  You receive a 25% discount coupon for each pair of jeans you donate, and the offer is only for jeans, they don’t want any other clothing donated.

The jeans are distributed to local homeless shelters or charities. Teens for Jeans continues until February 12, 2012, in a national promotion at all stores.

New Mexico Aéropostale stores are located in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, and Farmington.
